Fiona Duthie and Yekaterina Mokeyeva have both spent years living and creating near the ocean, but in very different coastal environments. A clear, artistic narrative developed out of this geographic connection; one that explores our relationship with the sea, and its states of being.
The term Sea States refers to the overall condition of a large body of water—with respect to wind, swell and current—at a particular moment and location. Each sea state offers a beautiful metaphor for our own personal, overall condition, and an excellent platform for exploration in surface design through feltmaking.
This is a collection of wearable sculptures, each one representing a sea state with surface textures and tensions escalating with each piece, just as the winds and waves do for sailors around the world. Ocean sounds accompany the pieces, creating a rich, sensory experience for the viewers.
Sea States presents fine felt art created by two independent artists with strong connections to their environment and the sea, the movement of wind, swell and current, a powerful and international metaphor illustrating our challenges and passions.
The exhibition is accompanied by two intensive workshop. Fiona Duthie and Katia Mokeyeva will be the theachers and they will share and explore their techniques used in Sea States.
