Sari silk ribbons are pure silk ribbons obtained from the fabrics used in the production of Indian Saris.
Resultantly, these ribbons are not only a beautiful product but also have a fascinating history and, more importantly for us,
they are products “saved” from landfill just like all other products in the rehab collection.
They are therefore products that help us to create beautiful projects with one eye on sustainability.
On the market you can find beautiful printed and dyed Sari ribbons from Saris that are no longer wearable. Ours, on the other hand, by choice,
are waste material from the production of raw fabrics and arrive at our dyeing house ready to be dyed. Why have we chosen to do this? To guarantee you the best possible dyes, made using certified dyes and correctly used with respect for people and the environment.
Silk sari ribbons are made by taking strips of hand-torn leftover Sari fabric and
sewing them together to create a continuous length of ribbon which is then rolled into a skein. For this type of production, the
edges are "raw cut" and frayed furthermore, the dyes are generally non-homogeneous (and that's the beauty of it!) because the ribbon inside the same skein tends to be made from different lots of Sari fabrics therefore
each section absorbs the colour in a different way creating very interesting effects.
Which projects can the ribbons be used for? Sari silk ribbons can be used for everything from:
knitting and crocheting,
weaving projects and jewellery making to gift wrapping and floral arrangements.
Attention: we are selling the cobalt color at a discount price because it may experience significant color loss during washing.
