Description
Cape Town has a truly unique structure, created from the twisting of a fine alpaca thread and a cord, which itself is made up of a core and two outer threads in contrasting colors. The result is undoubtedly intriguing, allowing for playful color combinations while balancing the mohair’s fluidity with the cord’s stability. The alpaca adds movement, while the cord ensures structure, making Cape Town a yarn full of personality that’s worth exploring.
Additionally, as always, we aimed to work with the most sustainable products possible and carefully selected regenerated materials: in this case, both the cotton and polyester used are 100% recycled.
Techniques
Cape Town is best worked with knitting needles or crochet hooks around size 8. It can also be easily used in weaving and macramé projects.
Tips
With knitting needles: its fluffy texture tends to obscure stitch patterns, so simple stitches like stockinette, garter stitch, ribbing, or seed stitch variations are perfect to highlight the yarn’s beauty.
With crochet hook: while single crochet is ideal, higher stitches can also be used.
On the loom: we used a rigid heddle loom with a 20:10 reed (2 ends/cm). This yarn is easy to use even in the warp, but keep in mind: you can’t unweave it in case of mistakes. We recommend a loose weave to avoid the threads sticking together. It’s firm and heavy, resulting in a thick, voluminous weave. Thanks to its light brushing, fringes are soft and have good hold. Great for stoles and other fashion accessories.
