Description
God Save the Cashmere will make you fall in love. Not only is it
made from recycled post-consumer cashmere (making it super sustainable!), but it also comes in a range of particularly elegant colors. Its structure is just right—stiff enough to keep your
projects in shape and define your stitches, yet soft, smooth, and pleasant to the touch, and even more so after the first wash.
God Save the Cashmere hasn’t been treated to remove the fuzz, so it’s not yet as soft as you’d expect cashmere to be. Work with it, and then wash your piece. You’ll see that after a few gentle washes, it will soften up beautifully and reveal the full splendor of the cashmere.
Techniques
It works best with very fine knitting needles and crochet hooks (size 1 ½ to 2 ½), though you can use larger sizes for a lacy effect. It’s also great for using two, three, or even four strands together.
Perfect for embroidery projects.
Tips
With knitting needles: Ideal for any kind of knit stitch.
With a crochet hook: A very dense result with single crochet. To vary it, you can use different heights of stitches and chains.
On the loom: we worked with this yarn using a rigid heddle loom, 48:10 reed (that’s 4.8 ends per cm). The yarn is quite delicate, so we recommend—especially for beginner weavers—using it in the weft only. If you’re up for more of a challenge and want to use it in the warp too, we suggest an open plain weave with the same number of warp and weft threads per cm, alternating with more densely beaten sections in a regular rhythm. The result? A beautifully textured fabric! With just one cone, you can create up to two scarves measuring 160 x 40 cm each.
