Description
Marilyn is a tape yarn made from pure, combed extra fine merino wool combined with lamé. The wool and lightweight construction create a soft and stretchy ribbon, while the lamé adds a touch of shine. The result is an elegant, eye-catching effect, where the regular texture of the ribbon is enhanced by flashes of metallic sheen that bring life to the surface.
Techniques
Marilyn is best worked with large knitting needles or crochet hooks, ideally size 7. It’s also perfect for weaving projects.
Tips
Knitting with this yarn is easy and fast, making it a highly rewarding experience.
With knitting needles: stockinette stitch is ideal to showcase the unique qualities of the yarn. You can also experiment with other textures, from raised patterns to lace stitches.
With crochet: single crochet creates a compact fabric, but you can easily work other stitches thanks to the tubular structure of the ribbon, which allows for taller stitches formed by loops closed on the hook. To create texture while lightening the final weight, try working into only one of the loops (either the front or back loop) of a stitch, rather than both.
On the loom: we worked the yarn with a rigid heddle loom using a 24:10 reed (2.4 ends/cm). It’s also suitable for shaft looms, with a warp density of 2–3 ends/cm. Despite its stretchiness, it works well even in the warp. When using it in the weft, make sure to join the ends properly if you want to keep weft changes invisible. Like all tape yarns, it’s ideal for decorative objects and fashion accessories, but be careful—this yarn isn’t suitable for pieces finished with fringes, as it tends to unravel.
