Description
We created Nuvola because we wanted a yarn that’s fun and versatile! A simple yet striking yarn that works beautifully even in easy and minimalist projects. To craft it, we combined three cotton threads: two finer and one thicker, with an irregular and textured feel, each in different shades.
The result is a soft, spongy summer-look yarn with a surface dotted with “cotton clouds”. It has slight elasticity and an impressive play of colors.
Techniques
Nuvola works well with medium-sized knitting needles and crochet hooks. It’s suitable for both clothing and home décor projects. Additionally, it’s perfect for weaving, macramé, needle punching, and tufting.
Tips
With knitting needles: stockinette stitch and other smooth or openwork patterns are ideal, as they highlight the yarn’s texture better than raised designs. The yarn glides effortlessly on the needles, producing a uniform and regular finish with neat edges. When knitting, the three strands are less likely to separate than with crochet.
With crochet hook: single crochet provides a compact, fabric-like result. You can experiment with half-double or double crochet stitches, but extra care is needed to ensure all three strands are caught in each stitch. This can slow down the process slightly but delivers a beautiful and cohesive outcome.
On the loom: we wove this yarn on a rigid heddle loom with a 32:10 reed (3.2 ends/cm). Weaves well, but the three plies tend to separate. Best used as weft. Ideal for clothing and fashion accessories.
