How to knit a sleeveless sweater

Wide-neck sweaters have a bit of magic: you can wear them in two ways! Keep the neckline centered for a classic look, or shift it to one side to reveal a bare shoulder. We chose to photograph our sleeveless sweater with a touch of sensuality—an exposed shoulder is just too beautiful!

This sweater is made with Estate yarn, a tape-style fiber that blends perfectly with other tape yarns in our collection. But this one is special—it's silky, has a gradient effect with two harmonized colors, and is incredibly elastic. We love it because it transforms even the simplest garment into an elegant masterpiece.

Before starting the pattern, head to our shop and choose your favorite Estate color. Remember, this stunning sweater can only be made with this yarn!

METHOD

This sleeveless sweater is knitted flat, horizontally, and consists of a single piece for both the front and back. You knit both sections together up to the neckline, then work the two halves separately before joining them again.

With knitting needles n° 8 EU / 11 US, cast on 73 (81, 89) stitches.

Row 1: knit all stitches
row 2: knit the first 3 stitches, (1 purl, 1 knit) repeat to the last 4 stitches, purl 1, then knit the last 3 stitches.

These two rows set the rib stitch pattern with garter stitch edges. Repeat for 12 (13, 14) more times, reaching row 26 (28, 30) and measuring 21.5 (23, 25) cm / 8.5" (9", 9.8").

Row 27 (29, 31): work the first 36 (40, 44) stitches as established, bind off 1 stitch for the neckline, work the last 36 (40, 44) stitches as established
row 28 (30, 32): work as established on the second section, then cast on 3 new stitches at the end of the row for the neckline border. Continue working only on this second section, leaving the stitches of the first section on a stitch holder
row 29 (31, 33): knit the first 3 stitches, continue in the established pattern
row 30 (32, 34): work in pattern until the last 3 stitches, Knit the last 3 stitches.

These two rows set the rib stitch pattern with garter stitch edges. Repeat for 14 (15, 16) more times, reaching row 58 (62, 66) and measuring 48.5 (51, 55) cm / 19.1" (20.1", 21.6"). Place the stitches on a stitch holder.

Go back to the first section and work it in the same way until it reaches the same height as the second section, without casting on new stitches for the neckline border.

In the next row: work as established across the first section, pick up and bind off 2 stitches of the garter stitch border from the second section, pick up and work the last border stitch, pick up and continue working the remaining stitches from the second section.

Continue working across all stitches in the established pattern until you reach row 84 (90, 96) and a total length of 70 (74, 80) cm / 28" (29.1", 32"). Bind off all stitches.

Finishing the sleeveless sweater

Fold the piece in half horizontally, aligning the neckline opening. Seam the side edges from the bottom up to 20 (22, 24) cm / 8" (8.7", 9.4"), Leave the top 18 (20, 22) cm / 7.1" (8", 8.7") open for the armholes.

And that’s it! Your elegant, wide-neck sleeveless sweater is ready to wear.
