Description
Estate is the quintessence of ribbon yarns. It joins Stromboli and Sailorman, adding that extra sparkle we all love. The yarn is a flat tubular ribbon, slightly shiny and silky, with a two-tone shaded-iridescent effect. The colors are harmoniously blended in the same tonal family, shifting from very light to more intense shades.
Versatile and smooth, soft and elastic, this yarn is easy and quick to work with, whether using knitting needles or a crochet hook. Opt for sturdy tools to ensure stitches are well-defined and maintain their structure and form.
Techniques
It works best with fairly thick needles and hooks. Starting with size 5 mm needles is recommended for a compact, well-structured result that avoids transparency. You can size up to 6 mm, 6.5 mm, or even 7 mm for lighter effects and playful transparency.
The final surface is precise and regular, offering flexibility and firmness while maintaining its shape consistently during and after the project. One feature we love is that the edges remain perfectly aligned and impeccably shaped.
Additionally, this yarn is ideal for weaving, macramé, needle punching, and tufting projects.
Tips
With knitting needles: stockinette stitch lies flat, beautifully showcasing both the stitch design and the yarn's gradients, which already act as decoration. You’ll notice the project taking its final shape as you work, such as when creating the panels of an A-line dress. Stockinette stitch can be alternated with elongated stitches (yarn over twice for each stitch, then drop the extra wrap on the return row) or other openwork patterns to lighten the yarn’s weight. Ribbing, textured stitches, and fabric-like patterns are not recommended, as they can be too heavy.
With crochet hook: in addition to single crochet, double crochet stitches are highly recommended, including those interspersed with chain stitches. An interesting alternative to compact single crochet is working single crochet in the back loop only, which creates a lighter and faster texture.
On the loom: we wove this yarn on a rigid heddle loom with a 24:10 reed (2.4 ends/cm), though a 20:10 (2 ends/cm) reed also works. Suitable for both warp and weft. Highly elastic and strong. Although it may twist slightly during weaving, it’s still easy to handle. Great for garments and fashion accessories.
