There are days when you want to feel elegant without being too flashy. This pocketed cardigan, as proposed in this pattern, meets that desire. A garment that can be worn under a coat or, on milder days, on its own over a short dress, just like you see here.
The true strength of this cardigan lies in the yarn chosen to make it: N.5, dedicated to the iconic Gabrielle Chanel. Made of alpaca with a slight touch of lamé, this yarn gives the cardigan its unique character. If you choose a different yarn, the cardigan you knit today won’t have the same distinctive charm.
You can find all the colors of N.5 in our shop, have fun picking your favorite!

METHOD
The sleeveless cardigan is knitted flat and consists of 3 pieces: the back and the two front panels. The neck, front, and armhole edges are knitted after the seams have been sewn together.
Using kitting needles n° 7 EU / 10½ US, cast on 61 (65, 73) stitches.
Row 1: knit 1, repeat (knit 1, purl 1) to end of row
row 2: knit 1, repeat (purl 1, knit 1) to end of row.
Rows 1 and 2 establish the 1/1 rib for the lower edge; repeat for 9 more times. After completing Row 20, you will have knitted 8 cm / 3.1".
Row 21: knit 8 (6, 9), 1 right increase, repeat [knit 15 (13, 18), 1 right increase] 3 (4, 3) times, knit 8 (7, 10).
You will have 65 (70, 77) stitches on the needle.
Row 22: purl all stitches.
Continue in stockinette stitch for 52 (54, 56) rows, which is 27 (28, 29) cm / 10.6" (11", 11.4") from the rib. Now begin the armhole decreases: for simplicity, the row numbering starts over from 1.
Row 1: bind off the first 3 stitches for the armhole, knit to the end of the row
row 2: bind off the first 3 stitches for the armhole, purl to the end of the row
row 3: decrease 1 stitch for the armhole by working a simple decrease over the first 2 stitches, knit to the last 2 stitches, decrease 1 stitch for the armhole by knitting 2 stitches together
row 4: purl all stitches
rows 5 to 8: continue in stockinette stitch without any decreases.

Rows 3 to 8 set the decreases on both sides for the armholes; repeat these rows for 4 (4, 5) times, then work in stockinette stitch for 10 (12, 8) more rows, reaching row 42 (44, 46).
Row 43 (45, 47): knit 11 (13, 14), bind off the next 27 (28, 31) stitches for the neck, knit 11 (13, 14)
row 44 (46, 48): purl the 11 (13, 14) stitches on the second side. Continue only on this second side, leaving the stitches from the first side on a stitch holder
row 45 (47, 49): bind off the first 2 stitches for the neck, knit to the end of the row
row 46 (48, 50): purl all stitches.
Bind off the work.
Pick up the stitches from the first side and knit them the same as the second side, but in reverse.
Using knitting needles n° 7 EU / 10½ US, cast on 25 (29, 33) stitches and knit 20 rows of 1/1 rib as for the lower edge of the back.
Row 21: knit 6 (7, 8), 1 right increase, knit 13 (15, 17), 1 right increase, knit 6 (7, 8).
You will have 27 (31, 35) stitches on the needle.
Row 22: purl all stitches.
Continue in stockinette stitch for 38 (40, 42) rows, which is 20 (21, 22) cm / 8" (8.3", 8.7") from the rib. Now begin the decreases for the neck, with separate instructions for each size.
