Description
N°5 is a yarn born from endless experimentation and tough decisions. When conducting extensive research and having access to an entire textile district for trials, it becomes challenging to stop and choose among the many possibilities. With N°5, we believe we’ve made the perfect choice: a blend of 5 twisted plies of wool, alpaca, and lamé, creating a soft, fluffy yarn with an elegant appearance that’s easy to work with and delivers incredibly satisfying results.
For timeless, sophisticated projects in a stunning color range that will make you say, “WOW!”
Techniques
It works best with medium-sized needles and hooks, ideally around 4.5 mm / 5 mm, or even 5.5 mm and larger. When crocheting, slightly thicker hooks are recommended compared to knitting needles.
Whether you’re knitting or crocheting, the stitches come out even and well-defined. The edges stay straight, allowing you to work efficiently while easily checking both the appearance and the stitch count.
The final surface is smooth, uniform, and soft when knitted, while crochet projects result in a more fabric-like, sturdy texture. For garments, N°5 achieves remarkable results, whether for outdoor pieces (crocheted coats and jackets) or indoor items (lightweight sweaters knitted with larger needles). Its versatility extends from sporty to elegant styles, as well as unique, exclusive accessories like bags.
It’s also perfect for weaving, macramé, needle punching, and tufting projects.
Tips
With knitting needles: Stockinette stitch creates a smooth, flat surface, enhanced by the yarn’s subtle color variations and the soft, slightly irregular texture of alpaca, which adds variety. Stockinette stitch can be complemented with a range of patterns, from openwork to textured designs, as long as they’re not overly intricate.
With a crochet hook: While single crochet works beautifully, taller stitches can also be used, though the fluffy texture of alpaca may cause minor challenges when closing multiple loops on the hook. For this yarn, single crochet and its variations are the most suitable.
On the loom: we wove this yarn on a rigid heddle loom with a 24:10 reed (2.4 ends/cm). Can be used as both warp and weft. Easy to weave, perfect for fashion garments and accessories.
