Description
Baratti is a 100% cotton 6-ply yarn that’s an absolute must-have. Clean lines and simplicity make it perfect for working on its own or combined with other yarns, whether for fashion projects, accessories, or home décor. It’s suitable for any technique you can think of and comes in a wide variety of colors! Try it, and you’ll fall in love with how smoothly it glides through your fingers without resistance, making it a joy to work with. Baratti instantly transports you to vacation mode!
Techniques
It works best with thin needles and hooks, ideally size 3–3.5 mm. The fact that it’s not tightly twisted is a plus for knitting, producing neat, well-joined stitches that create a smooth jersey-like fabric. For crochet, while the results are equally impeccable, the hook may catch between the plies of the untwisted yarn, so some care is needed to pick up all strands. It’s also perfect for spinning, macramé, tufting, and needle punching.
Ideal uses: the final fabric—whether knitted or crocheted—is compact and even, naturally lighter when knitted and denser when crocheted. This yarn is excellent for creating summer clothing with a fresh, natural look, as well as accessories and home décor items (e.g., cushions, placemats, and table runners).
Tips
Knitting: stitches glide effortlessly on the needle without the risk of slipping. Stockinette stitch provides the significant advantage of maintaining a consistent, straight shape throughout the project, with edges that remain aligned and neat. The smooth surface showcases any pattern details, such as openwork or simple increases and decreases. Lightweight, understated designs are recommended, as complex cables and intricate patterns can weigh the work down.
Crochet: beyond single crochet and its variations, taller stitches—including treble and double treble—can be worked with ease. The yarn is ideal for filet and other mesh patterns.
