By now, it's a reflex. When I see corn, I think of the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh.
I don't remember the day that I discovered this tormented genius painter but I perfectly remember the first time that I found myself in front of one of his works: at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. I was with my friend Gaia. We were both just barely 20 years old. Our love of travel and art drove us to discover museums and galleries wandering around Europe and the French capital was the perfect destination for us, a place where we could admire so many treasures which we had only seen, up until then, in photographs in books.
Vincent, known as the handsome parson, and his stars, so luminous and pulsating reflecting onto the Rhône, made my heart go boom! They made me literally fall in love with his contrasting colors. So many disorderly stars which light up the night for those who aren't sleeping, bundles of light coming from afar to embellish the sky.
Thanks to our visit to this museum, I became interested in the Dutch painter, who has such an extravagant temperament and original traits. I went searching for his paintings and discovered one of his most famous works is Wheat Field with Crows. It is very well known both because it is most likely his last painting and because of the expressive force with which Nature is represented: a dark sky spinning with the air of a storm, a group of crows flying over a wheat field which is dishevelled by the wind and three pathways. These few elements generate such different interpretations, both positive and negative. I choose the favorable one in which the flock of crows are flying away after a terrible storm and serenity is about to return; where the paths are the choices we have in front of us and the very yellow ears of corn represent the good harvest of the afternoon. Because after a bad day or a difficult journey, we always reach landfall either with someone's help or by our own instincts. So, we wish lots of golden corn and steaming hot bread for everyone, and lots of Van Gogh!
