How to knit a crop top with ruffles

Today you’ll learn how to make a top with a full-on frou-frou vibe. What does that mean? It’s a way to describe garments that are ultra-feminine, fun, and easy to wear—enhanced with lovely, delicate details.

This top is cropped, super feminine, with a ruffle running all along the edge, a deep neckline at the front and back, and a cheerful look thanks to the yarn we used: Pop. Pop is a flat cotton tape yarn made from recycled fibers—so it has a more sustainable soul—and it stands out for its vibrant contrasting colors and a super fine bouclé thread that runs through it. Pop is truly one of a kind, and it shines best in simple projects where it can take center stage.

Before diving into the pattern, head over to the shop and pick your favorite Pop color—and remember: your top will only look as good as the one pictured if you use our original Pop yarn.

METHOD

The crop top is worked flat and consists of two pieces, the back and the front, which are sewn together at the end along the shoulders and sides.

How to knit the back of the crop top

With knitting needles n° 6 EU / 10 US, cast on 110 (120, 130) stitches and, for the lower edge, work 4 rows of garter stitch and 6 rows of stockinette stitch, making 1 selvage stitch at the beginning and end of each row.

Row 11: 1 selvage stitch, 7 (8, 0) knit stitches, repeat [1 double bind-off over the next 3 stitches, 4 (4, 5) knit stitches] until the last 4 (6, 1) stitches, 3 (5, 0) knit stitches, 1 selvage stitch; 82 (90, 98) stitches remain
row 12: 1 selvage stitch, continue purling until the last stitch, 1 selvage stitch
row 13: 1 selvage stitch, 3 (5, 0) knit stitches, repeat [1 double bind-off over the next 3 stitches, 2 (2, 3) knit stitches] until the last 3 (4, 1) stitches, 2 (3, 0) knit stitches, 1 selvage stitch; 52 (58, 66) stitches remain
row 14: 1 selvage stitch, continue purling until the last stitch, 1 selvage stitch.

The edge is finished and measures 7 cm / 2.7". Continue in stockinette stitch for 26 (28, 30) rows, reaching row 40 (42, 44), which corresponds to 21 (22, 23) cm / 8.3" (8.7", 9").

Row 41 (43, 45): bind off the first 5 (7, 8) stitches for the armhole, continue knitting until the end of the row
