How to knit the grain of rice stitch

Today We are going to learn a classic knitting stitch. Which also includes a small variation to the pattern.

Today's stitch is called the rice grain stitch and also its variant: the double grain of rice stitch. You will see that even a minute variation of the stitch goes on to create quite a different texture. In the first stitch, the pattern is created by the horizontal bars from the purl stitches which protrude from the knitted stitches. In the second stitch there is more focus on the vertical and you can notice the alternation of the columns of knitted stitches.

The consistency of the gauge is also different: the rice grain gauge is thicker and more consistent, while the double rice grain gauge is lighter.

Thanks to the alternation of knitted and purled stitches, none of the 4 edges are susceptible to curling. This makes both stitches ideal for beading, stockinette stitch, and for borderless work.
