For a while now I have been having a secret wish. Actually, it’s not only one. Ok, ok, they are many, maybe, maybe too many!
But this is a dream I've always cherished.
I wish I could make you breathe and live what we are breathing and living every day; that magic connection between textile, fashion and art – between tradition and technology. The immersion in the ttraditional knowledge and tricks of the trade is something that our small town offers us. Our city is to the history of Italian fashion and textiles what Florence is to the history of the art. How can we do that? Certainly, we can accomplish it with photos, stories, videos and textile tours, but also - and above all – with our products.
Products, products, products that only DHG can offer you. In fact, we have an entire textile district where more than 6,000 companies have been working for centuries to produce yarn, fabrics and clothing. It would be a shame not to draw on this source for nourishing our and your creativity ... don’t you think?
And so, from now, on I will devote lot of my energies to proposing new products to give your creations that little extra something. Maybe I will try to find special products usually inaccessible to non-experts that will eventually be just a click away. But not only that... I want to be your antennas and anticipate new market trends, new techniques and materials. How can I do that? First of all, I will rely on those who know more than I on the subject. To tell you the truth, I have already started.
On Monday, I went to class to Mrs. (worldwide) Fashion Trends: the unique and inimitable Lidewij Edelkoort...
Since I studied fashion marketing at the university, this fantastic woman has become a myth for me. It was amazing to have her there, only a few meters away, charismatic as always, and to hear her talking and talking for a whole day.
Above all, it was great to see that fame, success and ability sometimes do not make people snobbish or a diva. Edelkoort is indeed, legendary even in this: humble, helpful and attentive. She immediately made us feel at ease and told us the world to come, as if she was telling a fairy tale.
The theme of the day were the trends for summer 2015. Those trends, as she immediately pointed out, are not invented or imposed by her, but she simply senses them, thanks to her sensitivity and continuous wandering around the globe. The trends are more than an indication of the colours that will or will not go.
Mrs. Edelkoort told us about social changes, global culture in motion, anthropological earthquakes and only ultimately, about how all this is clearly reflected also in the arts and fashion.
It would be too long to summarize a day's work in a post, but I would like to share with you the leitmotif that has been highlighted over and over again. And I love it.
The slogan will be: GATHER. Gather together, stay together, work together, build relationships. This concept of gathering will not level and turn off the individuality, but rather enhance it.
Green light to the layers of colours then, to the mixing of fabrics and structures. Soft, transparent, heavy, traditional and technological materials into a total confusion, a cheerful, confusion that however, as Edelkoort says, has the meaning of life. An organized but free life, allowing each person to be what she/he wants.
After the crisis, the fall of many regimes and also thanks to infinite new possibilities of communication, the world seems to be ready to change its skin. It is time to overcome certain models, to get back to real, manufacturing economies that can ensure a widespread prosperity. With its rules though. Nevermore Dhaka.
Mrs. Edelkoort began and concluded by saying that the summer will be wonderful. I do not know how I'm going to bring all this beauty in our textile proposals but, believe me, I will try!
