The delicacy of the dream in the palm of one's hand. This is the thought I had when I first laid eyes on the soft sculptures created by Sabina Gibson, a textile artist from Quebec. Wonderful miniature animals made of felt. Evanescent guiding spirits that accompany you to the North Pole, the Jurassic period, to South America, to the lushest forests and the most enchanting seas. Each of them made unique by embroideries, jumpers, scarves, glasses and many other details of inconceivable beauty. However, there is one sizable problem with these pets; choosing your favourite really is an insurmountable task.

You can find Sabina on Instagram as @mountroyalmint. Since she was a child Sabina has felt a strong connection with animals. She designs them, colours them and subsequently learns to cut and sew fabrics, thusly finding her ideal medium to express her creative side. She goes to art school but it was in Taiwan that she discovered felt animals, and since that moment she will never abandon them again. She boasts important collaborations such as those with Anthropologie and Crate & Barrell, she has also published several illustrated books and is continuously creating collectible miniature animals.
Sabina chose our felt squares for a trio of colourful but docile dinosaurs each one more beautiful than the last?
Your favourite song?
Good vibrations by the Beach boys.
Summer or Winter?
Summer! Because here in Canada the summer is very short and so we have to enjoy it as much as we possibly can.
Why felt as a medium for expression?
I've never been a genius at sewing but animals have always inspired me. Discovering felt, I realised that I could combine the two things. It can be manipulated easily , it is robust and can be stuffed to make beautiful, strong shapes. Plus, felt creations can last a lifetime.

What excites you the most?
Nature, a simple lifestyle and creating art every day.
The phrase that has become your mantra?
Perfection is boring.
What's your relationship with animals and nature?
I recently moved and have distanced myself from the city in a bid to reconnect with nature. We have also bought a house in the countryside to give my children the opportunity to have a healthy childhood. Running barefoot, climbing trees, enjoying the lakes and exploring the forest. In an increasingly technological world it is important to spend time outdoors, to feel free and to appreciate all that nature has to offers us. Good food, fresh air, green spaces, peace and quiet. These are the things I appreciate the most.
