The hanging textile lamps that Diana Meneses Cunha, from Oficina 166, made using are items have a refined and sparkling beauty about them. Made with our felt ribbons, etamine ones and some of our finest yarns, this mini collection of hanging lamps show that with the right dose of creativity anything can be turned into wonderful and even useful objects.
Oficina 166 is a Portuguese design studio run by the resourceful Diana. Over the years she has nurtured her creative character and eventually founded her own modern artisan workshop where rugs, panels, tapestries take shape. A place where ancient techniques, such as macramé, embroidery and weaving come together with more modern and often unusual materials, creating the perfect mix of colours and shapes.
Now Diana’s going to tell us about the inspiration behind each inspirational lamp that she made using our items:
Candy
I imagine this lamp in a room full of color, inspired in South America decoration style, maybe in a country as Cuba or Mexico. I love colors and the colors of DHG ribbons are simply amazing. As Candy reminds me of Summer I used the etamine ribbons for the base and then added some felt ribbons in similar colors. I loved the result of weaving with ribbons: those small squares.

Dots
This lamp is perfect for a bedroom. Depending on the colors used, it maybe seen in a main bedroom or a kids room. I chose Stromboli yarn in a neutral tone for the base and then Cleopatra yarn in 2 different but vibrant colors for the dots embroidered. French knots all over give this lamp some texture, only noticed when you look at it closely. Imagine this lamp with red and pink dots and it will look so different again.
Sparkling
A sophisticated lampshade, for a living room or a dining room. Really soft yarn, Cyrcus and Sierra, in 2 different colors enhance the 2 different parts of the lamp. The grey yarn has beautiful color shades that make this lamp matching so easily with the environment. I then decided to give it a more sophisticated touch adding thinner Charleston yarn in blue, red and purple tones, mixed with gold and silver strings. I first thought of selecting only one of them, but soon understood that the combination of all three worked perfectly.
